The Ultimate Guide: How to Get from Incheon Airport to Seoul Station

 Hello everyone, this is mookwa.

In my last post, I introduced some essential apps you'll need in Korea. This time, I'll be guiding you from Incheon Airport, where most of you will first arrive, to Seoul Station, the gateway to your Korean adventure!

So, let's explore the quickest and most convenient ways to get from Incheon Airport to the heart of Seoul.

1. The Fastest and Easiest Way: AREX Express Train

The AREX (Airport Railroad Express) Express Train is the fastest way to travel from Incheon Airport Terminal 1 or 2 directly to Seoul Station. It's a non-stop service, making it perfect for those with lots of luggage or anyone who wants to save time.

  • Travel time: Approximately 43 minutes (from Terminal 2)

  • Operating interval: About every 40 minutes

  • Fare: 11,000 KRW for adults (no discounts with a transportation card)

The Express Train is the quickest option as it goes directly to Seoul Station without any stops. The seats are spacious and comfortable, and there's a dedicated area for storing your luggage. Don't worry about your belongings—Korea is a very safe country, and theft is extremely rare. I've taken this train many times and have never had anything stolen or lost.

How to board:

  1. Follow the 'Train' signs from the Arrivals Hall.

  2. Purchase your ticket at the 'Airport Railroad Express Train' counter.

  3. Go down to the platform and board your train! Your ticket will show the platform and seat number. If you have any questions, feel free to ask a staff member or a friendly Korean person nearby—they'll be happy to help.

2. The Most Affordable Way: AREX All-Stop Train (Korea's Subway)

The AREX All-Stop Train takes a little longer than the Express Train, but it's a much more budget-friendly option to get to Seoul Station. It makes stops at various stations along the way, giving you a chance to see some of the local scenery and experience Korea's convenient subway system. Once you try it, you'll see just how easy it is!

  • Travel time: Approximately 59 minutes (from Terminal 2)

  • Operating interval: About every 5-10 minutes (very frequent)

  • Fare: 5,050 KRW for adults (using a transportation card)

This is the most economical way to get to Seoul Station. You can easily pay with a transportation card like T-money, or you can purchase a single-use ticket with cash or a card. Since the trains run so frequently, you won't have to wait long.

How to board:

  1. Follow the 'Train' signs, just like you would for the Express Train.

  2. Enter through the All-Stop Train gate by tapping your T-money card or using your single-use ticket.

  3. Board the train heading toward 'Seoul Station.'

The main difference from the Express Train is that this one makes stops at every station, which is why the travel time is longer. If you have a navigation app like Kakao Map or Naver Map, which I recommended in my last post, you can easily find your way to the platform.

3. The Most Comfortable Way: Airport Limousine Bus

Lastly, the Airport Limousine Bus is a great option for a relaxing journey. These buses run from the airport to various major areas of Seoul, including Seoul Station. With spacious and comfortable seating, you can sit back and enjoy the view of Korea's streets from your window.

  • Travel time: 1 to 1.5 hours or more, depending on traffic. This is generally longer than the train. You might also have to wait longer for a bus, as they operate on a set schedule.

The seats on the bus are much more comfortable than those on the subway. The bus driver will also load your luggage into a dedicated compartment, so you don't have to worry about carrying it or losing it. It's a great way to enjoy the scenery on your way to Seoul.

How to board:

  1. Exit the airport from the Arrivals Hall on the 1st floor.

  2. Buy your ticket for the Seoul Station route at the ticket counter or a self-service kiosk.

  3. Go to the designated bus stop and board the bus.
