The Ultimate Seoul Travel Guide: 5 Must-Visit Hotspots for Your Foreign Friends!
Are you wondering where to take your foreign friends visiting Seoul? I get it—there's so much to see and do! Out of all the amazing places, I've picked five that truly capture the essence of Korea. I’ve personally visited all these spots, and they’ve always been a hit with my international friends. Trust me and follow along!
1. Gyeongbokgung Palace: A Trip Back in Time with a Hanbok
Located in the heart of Seoul, Gyeongbokgung Palace is the perfect place to experience Korea’s unique beauty. A great tip is that if you rent and wear a hanbok (Korean traditional dress), your palace admission is free! (I’m not 100% sure if this is still the case, but it was when I went!). Strolling through the palace grounds in a colorful hanbok will make you feel like the main character of a historical K-drama. Near the palace, you'll find plenty of cute souvenir shops, great restaurants, and cozy cafes to explore. The traditional village nearby is also a fantastic spot.
Top Recommendations:
Hanbok Experience: Snap some amazing photos in traditional Korean attire. (Koreans are usually happy to help you take a great picture!)
Royal Guard Changing Ceremony: Don’t miss the fascinating ceremony with guards in stunning traditional uniforms.
Bukchon Hanok Village: Walk through this traditional village near the palace to soak in the old-world charm. (It's full of great photo spots!)
2. Namsan Tower: Taking in Seoul's Night View
Namsan Tower is an iconic Seoul landmark, and while it's beautiful during the day, the view from dusk to night is simply breathtaking. Even though I'm from Daegu, I've seen it a couple of times, and while it’s not the Eiffel Tower, it's just as beautiful. The glittering city lights create an unforgettable scene. The cable car ride up to the observatory is a special experience on its own. If you’re with a special someone, you can also join the tradition of attaching a love lock to the fence.
Top Recommendations:
Cable Car: Enjoy a unique ride up to Namsan Tower while taking in the scenery. (The view at night is absolutely spectacular!)
Seoul Night View: The fantastic scenery created by the sparkling city lights.
Love Locks: A romantic spot to attach a lock and make a promise with your loved one.
3. Myeongdong: A Paradise for Shopping and Street Food
If you want to feel the pulse of Seoul, Myeongdong is the place to go. It's a shopping hub with everything from Korean cosmetics and fashion to souvenirs. The street food here is incredible and guaranteed to capture the hearts of your friends. Don’t be shy—give it a try, it’s delicious! You can have a great time tasting all sorts of Korean street food like tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), chicken skewers, and hotteok (sweet pancakes).

4. Hongdae: The Street of Youth and Art
Full of art and a free-spirited vibe, Hongdae is the best place to experience the energy of Korea's youth. Most young Koreans hang out here. You can enjoy busking performances and browse unique, quirky shops. Lately, many streamers broadcast their walks here. Wander through vintage stores, stylish cafes, and charming boutiques to soak in Hongdae’s unique atmosphere. Don't forget to visit a Korean bar while you're there! Soju is a must-try Korean liquor—have a shot or two, or three!

Gyeongnidan-gil and Haebangchon, in particular, have many charming cafes and restaurants, perfect for a leisurely walk. It’s also a great spot for taking photos!
